There’s probably nothing I love more during the summer than several scoops of Blue Bell’s Cookies N Cream. Or some Cookie Two-Step. Heck, I could go for a cone of vanilla right now….
It’s National Ice Cream Month and you bet I’m going to be enjoying a cone or two. However, since I’m trying to limit my sugar and dairy intake, I want to find other ways to celebrate my love of this deliciously creamy treat. And what better way to celebrate than by combining this love with crochet? (0 calorie, 0 sugar, 100% diet friendly)
This pillow, designed by the one and only Twinkie-Chan, is the perfect way to declare your love of a double scoop of Mint Chocolate ice cream to every visitor who plops down on your couch this summer. I made my own recently with some I Love This Yarn. I loved that the blue I chose had some color spots that reminded my of sprinkles.
This was a fun project to make. The original project has three scoops, but I sadly did not have enough yarn to make the third scoop. Thinking back on it now, I could have added in another color to make a scoop between the blues. Oh, hindsight. What a frenemy you are to the creative souls of the world.
If I were to do this project again, I think I would try to make a pillow form to sew the crochet pieces around. In my effort to make this a firm throw pillow, the cone came out a little misshaped. In fact, some people thought the cone was a peanut when I posted a few pictures online. 😦 I think that issue would be resolved (and maybe the trim wouldn’t stick out as much) if I had a similar shaped pillow to put inside. Twinkie-Chan had flawless execution with regular stuffing, so it’s not something you HAVE to do.
This ice cream cone pillow chills out on the couch of my Instagram follower, traneuman. I made this delicious piece of home decor earlier in the year and put it up for a giveaway in the spring. If you’re still hot and your sweet tooth is unsatisfied, may I suggest some delicious 3- ingredient Nice Cream? All you need is a frozen banana, a dash of vanilla, and your choice of additional fruit (optional). I tried this with some frozen strawberries in a food processor and was happy with the results. I’m trying to transition to a plant based lifestyle and sweets are my hardest obstacle- especially since a small pint of Bluebell is $3 cheaper than the non-dairy alternatives. -sigh-
What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream or ice cream alternative? Give me some ideas of how I can keep cool and healthy this summer.
